Strong magnetic fields are harder to shield because they tend to "saturate" the shielding material. This 4" wide foil is a hefty .010" thick and has an exceptionally high magnetic saturation of 21400 Gauss and maximum permeability of 4000. Tin plated for excellent corrosion resistance and better conductivity, it can be soldered or painted. MagnetShield typically reduces fields up to a factor of 2 or 3 depending on size/shape of the shield. Can be used in multiple layers, and/or in combination with a higher permeability alloy such as Joint-Shield for higher attenuation. Annealing is not necessary with this material. For increased shielding effectiveness, consider the following strategies: Good: Layer(s) MagnetShield Better: One or more layers of MagnetShield (closest to the source of field), followed by one or more layers of a high permeability material such as Joint-Shield or MagStop Plate. One is it also becomes magnetic but not as much. The other it seems to reduce the magnets pulling force. The shielding increases its negetive effect on the magnet if it touches the magnet, becoming part of the magnet. A dead air space needs to be between the magnet and the shielding. The flux of the magnet, when wrapped with shielding, still has a roll around effect on the edges just as strong, a consideration when magnetic motors are concerned. I'm still playing around with different types of shielding and haven't found the perfect solution, I know there is one, just have to keep looking. Conclusion: yes but other factors of the magnetic field apply and must be considered. **Q: Can this be used for shielding the housing of an electromagnet and permanent magnet to ensure no leak of magnetic fields?** A: I haven't used the material yet so I don't know how effective it is but it should, at least in principal, work to shield the fields.
