As a silica-ceramic hybrid, it moves with the metal as it heats/expands and cools/contracts to give it durability. PJ1 Flat Black Exhaust Paint forms a protective shield against rust and corrosion. It resists chipping and scratching. Temperature Tolerance: Withstands up to 1500F. It is well-suited headers and expansion chambers. Not for use on engines, crankcases, transmissions, or radiators! Finish: Flat Black. Application Instructions: 1.)Blast etch or sand to expose bare metal. 2.)Remove all loose debris. 3.)Flush surface with non residue evaporative cleaner such as PJ1 Super Cleaner (Product Number 3-20, 3-21(CA Compliant)). 4.)Apply paint within 24 hours. 5.)Shake can vigorously for a full minute. Apply 3 or 4 thin even coats. Shake can between coats. More thin coats are better than fewer thick coats. Heat Curing On the Vehicle: A) Run at idle for 10 minutes. B) Cool for 20 minutes. Review: Painted Harley exhaust and shields - My exhaust pipes were looking a bit worn. I did plenty of research and determined PJ1 to be the most suitable High temp paint for my exhaust in Arizona, I also verified this to support my findings. For my results I sanded using 400 grit, and cleaned with alcohol afterwards prior to paint. I applied four coats, without primer. The finish came out to be almost a flat/Satin (use pig spit if you want a bit more luster, I did not) and it came out great. I baked my guards in the oven at 500 degrees for about an hour, and rode with the exhaust painted part on the bike for about half an hour or more to get heat treated. Time will tell, but I've heard it will be great for a very long time based on everything mentioned. The end results are exactly wheat to was looking for and the coverage was excellent. I highly recommend using this over other brands. If for any reason this changes over time I will update my review, however unlikely. By inside I mean the part of the pipe toward the end that is exposed.** A: Can be, never did it paint rated from 1300-2000 degrees My opinion won't last if you ride a lot will get discolored from exhaust **Q: Can this be used on a tank and fender?** A: Yes, Just make sure you clean the part you're going to paint real good.
