This belt was great in helping me get comfortable in the water and learn how to kick and do the strokes without the fear of sinking. I had been using a noodle to help me float but this belt leaves both your legs and arms free, so that is why it was so much more helpful. I now don't use the belt because i've learned how to float, but I've donated it to the pool so that other novices can get use out of it. Would recommend it to anyone just starting out. A note on sizing -- i'm petite - 4'11" and about 110 lbs and the small fits, but on the tightest setting. It looked awkward. I put it in the back and it works well for swimming laps. The reason I actually bought it was to be able to float while playing with my 23 lb. dog in the lake.
