As others have noted, I had to adjust some movements to avoid sliding quickly across the surface (ouch!), but that same texture keeps me from slipping even when sweaty and gives the mat a nice durable feel. Love the color and the variation--gives me a different meditative experience each time I use it. Width is average, maybe a little wider than an average mat, but length provides extra room, which is perfect because my dog usually joins me. On the pricey side, but I would still recommend.
