It has to be a sealed system. Their other oil separator without the breather will work on any vehicle with a closed crankcase ventilation system (anything with a PCV valve). It gets installed inline with the hose/tube from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. Flow direction is from pcv to intake. If you live up north make sure to install any oil seperator towards the firewall and not up front, condensation will freeze in the screen and can cause pressure in the crankcase resulting in lots of oil consumption and blown out seals. After much researching of how to help prevent carbon buildup on the valves of R56’s (N14 engine), I decided to buy these based on decent ratings and value. I installed 2 for the separate pvc systems. You can see in the pictures that one has collected a mixture of moisture and oil and the other strictly oil. If it weren’t for the oil catch cans, these would have ended up behind the valves and also burned up in the combustion chamber. That’s at around 3500 miles since the las oil change. The little dipsticks are helpful. Having to modify the connections and finding the correct barbed adapters was an inconvenience but required. There are plenty of videos online to help with installation.
