There's one short spring to be used for the narrow end of the board (great idea), the rest are all the same length. There are 5 or 6 sets, I forget now. I only used 3, that was enough.The hooks in question can spear through the edges of the material to pull it tight, or loop around strings that line the edge of your cover, depending on what kind you have. Mine has strings, so I did not have to put any holes in the edge of the cover.This is a quality accessory at a fantastic price, made 100% of plated metal so it should last for a very long time. If I could forecast any part of it failing (in the distant future) it would be the springs. You can buy general purpose springs at the hardware store for cheap, so if I ever need to, that'll be the route I'll take. Thin elastic bungee cord would work well too.I fully expect to be an grey haired old man (many years from now) still ironing my shirts with these clips holding the cover taut. Nice. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Seriously dangerous! *by L***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 5, 2011* I was conflicted on how to review these. It took me half an hour to get them on, and it was an extremely dangerous endeavor. Had I not taken an earlier reviewer's advice to wear gloves, my hands would have been in ribbons. Yet, now that I'm done, I do have a nice tight ironing board cover that I'm convinced will not slide off. It really seems to do the trick, but I just think they could have made the springs a bit longer and still have achieved the required tightness without risking giant fish hooks embedded in your hands. Or they could have designed them better, such that there's something to hold onto aside from the actual hooks (I had a few close calls where the hooks actually dug through my gloves while trying to stretch them to the other side of the board). So in spite of the fasteners working like a charm once installed, I think the danger factor warrants two stars off a perfect score. Good luck to anyone who wants to try them, and definitely wear the sturdiest gloves you can find. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Springs 1--me 3 *by M***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 27, 2014* These springs are entirely too tight for someone with average or less strength in the arms. I really had to work to get the springs lodged properly--three of them. While I was wrestling with number 4, one of the spring mechanisms fell apart, the spring "zinged" away, and the pieces of the broken clip looked far from sturdy when I tried to put it back together. I couldn't do it, but the three I did manage to put in place (which were VERY taunt springs) seem to be doing fine.
