Other than price.** A: I thought it would be marketing as well. So I looked in a leading consumer review Magazine and there is apparently a difference. They rated the "ultimate" A few points higher than the "advanced" and for the two tests that they use, one a flashlight test and the other a toy test, the "ultimate" received "excellent" on both tests, while the "advanced" Received "excellent" on the flashlight test and a "good" on the toy test. So I assume the lithium ultimate version lasted longer on the run down test for the toy, which is going to draw energy more inconsistently than a flashlight. If I find a product is burning through batteries faster than expected, I will usually try lithiums. More often than not, the improvement in run time is substantial **Q: Are these “energizer e91” batteries? my co detector requires that type (won’t work with generic aas). where on packages does it indicate e91?** A: E91 refers to Eveready Alkaline batteries¹ (open circuit about 1.5 VDC). L91 refers to Eveready Lithium batteries² (open circuit about 1.8 VDC). The physical casing is the same size. The CO detector may present such a low battery load that it does not like the slightly higher voltage that the L91 battery exhibits when not under a typical load. Contact your CO detector manufacturer and get their opinion on which battery to use (Alkaline or Lithium). Under a reasonable load this drops to roughly 1.5 VDC (as Reilly pointed out). This is normal. It is possible in your application -- a very low load on the batteries -- it is possible that the higher voltage is affecting your electrical circuit somehow. I've never run into this but it is possible. Physically they use the same physical case (50mm long, 14mm diameter). But I have seen some designs where the designer got cute and tried to mask off the + battery terminal using barriers to protect from reverse polarity. The result is sometimes the + battery terminal doesn't make contact with the + device terminal. If you're really intent on using the Lithium batteries, I'd recommend checking out those two scenarios.
