It came packed in tissue paper with a tea sample and brewing/ care instructions, just as described. It was packed flawlessly, and came without any broken pieces or scratches. This gaiwan is a little on the small side, probably meant to be used as an individual brewing and serving device, rather than as a teapot/ pitcher like some of the larger gaiwan. On the upside, the smallness of the cup will help ensure the tea inside is consumed before it over-steeps.
