When I ran across World Peas Bombay Curry at TJ Maxx, I had to try them (I love curry). They were fantastic. I really could not get enough of them. When I realized how good they were, I hopped on Amazon to search for other flavors. I have now tried a few other flavors of World Peas. Here are my reviews...Curry is great and worth trying. BBQ and Garlic are both very yummy. The Chili flavored are disgusting! Several of us in my office tried them. I liken the flavor to what I imagine bathroom cleaner would taste like...blech! My co-worker's tongue went numb after eating several. We couldn't get to other food fast enough to get the taste out of our mouths. Stay away from that one. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Texas BBQ is much tastier than Ranch (4/5 green stars). *by J***Y on May 22, 2016* Previously, I had tried the Ranch variety of World Peas and thought they were just OK. However, the Texas BBQ flavor is much tastier – it has a great paprika flavor and although they’re not hot they do taste like good barbecue sauce. Like other pea-snacks I’ve had before, they’re pretty crunchy but they are cooked evenly so there are no hard peas in there.It would be nice to see an image of the ingredients on this page. The BBQ flavor is low in fat (2 g), high in protein (4 g), contains 15 g carbs (1g sugars), and moderate sodium (6% RDA) and fiber (5% RDA) content. Overall, pretty good nutritionally – but we know peas are good for you. The other ingredients: Corn starch x2, sugar, refined soy bean oil, natural flavors, spices, silica. Silica seemed weird (silica is sand, basically) but I looked it up and it’s commonly used as an anti-caking agent and appears to be fine. I don’t love the refined soy oil – I’d much prefer to see expeller-pressed oil. Soy oil (if not organic) is extracted from soy beans with hexane and heat. The heat can cause unhealthy free radicals. That oil and the fact that they’re not organic is why they get 4/5 gold stars instead of 5/5.In terms of social and environmental impact I think World Peas deserve 4/5 green stars. There are several issues to consider, so let’s start with peas themselves. Peas are classified as pulses (part of the legume family) – these plants fix their own nitrogen and therefore have much lower fertilizer needs. Nitrogen fertilizer is generally made from natural gas (or even coal) and accounts for around 40% of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with agriculture. Besides saving energy and CO2, peas can also enhance the soil by adding nitrogen and other nutrients, making them a good rotation crop. The UN declared 2016 the year of the pulse to draw attention to these foods as more sustainable protein sources. Possible negative impacts of peas can include high water and moderate pesticide use, depending on how they are grown. For the price of these World Peas, I’d expect them to be certified organic, or at least for the company to provide some information on sustainability. Sustainable packaging would also be wonderful, if they really wanted to stand out and make a difference. The peas are imported from the UK, but this is by boat (the company confirmed this) so it doesn’t add hugely to their carbon footprint. World Peas Snacks don’t provide any information about their sustainability, carbon footprint, etc. They are all vegan, including this ranch flavor. Overall, if compared to other sources of protein, peas are a good choice. ### ⭐⭐ A fiery disappointment *by N***O on September 23, 2016* So I really should have read the reviews for this flavor before purchasing... like many other reviewers I experienced a strange metallic aftertaste and a numbing/tingling sensation of the tongue when I tried these peas. The flavor itself is good while you eat them, so I tried to eat another handful to mask the sensation which only made it worse.
