To keep it short, if these enter your airway or eyes, they can spell chaos and a visit to your friendly neighborhood E.R. Inside the box was a small, neat paper bag for protection and labeling of the filters. It contained the standard product information, warnings, safety risks and other pertinent information. Noted was situations in which use of this product would not be okay and what it would work well for. That is: organic vapors, chlorine, hydrogen chloride, sulfur dioxide, chlorine dioxide or hydrogen sulphide, ammonia/methylamine, formaldehyde or hydrogen fluoride. I cannot say the same for other filters. There is no hard specified replacement schedule included with the filters. The information leaflet simply states to "Replace with an established change schedule or earlier when smell, taste, or irritation is noticed." That certainly could create a safety hazard for an average Joe working with dangerous chemicals. A good rule a thumb is to replace filters every 60 hours of usage or 3 months (whichever is soonest) under average usage and concentration. If using less harmful chemicals, the odor/taste test would be sufficient. All in all, when used as directed in accordance with products these filters are designed to fit, they go above and beyond expectations. And what about after they have been opened?** A: Hello, this is what 3M says, "What is the shelf life of 3M™ Cartridges?Provided they are stored unopened in the originalpackaging, cartridges will last five years frommanufacture date."If opened, it greatly depends on the environment. Activated charcoal is incredibly absorbent and will fill up quick; in a few days. **Q: If these filters work with spray paint would you still need p95 filter, and if so how would you go about installing them into these?** A: You do not need the p95 filter, however, they are a nice add on pre filter that can extend the life of the gas/vapor cartridge. The p95 filter snaps onto the cartridge with a 3M 501 Filter Retainer. **Q: Will this work with 3m6391 p100 mask?** A: it fits 6000 series masks which have standard 3M round fitting, screws on. **Q: How do these compare to a N95 disposable mask. do they filter out as much or a lot more?** A: No, this cartridge does not filter out particles. Highly recommended. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Versatile protection! *by R***S on August 30, 2016* This is a great multi-purpose pair of filters that filter practically all gasses/vapors you could encounter at home or on the work floor (except mercury vapor). Compared to the other 3M cartridges (such as the black organic vapor ones), these filter more chemicals for practically the same price, so go figure. I use them mostly for filtering bleach (chlorine) vapors while cleaning, but also for the occasional spraying of pesticides. I plan on using them more in the future for paint jobs and dirty cleanup work after we get our first puppy! Please note that these cartridges alone are not intended to filter out particles or aerosol. So for (saw)dust, mold or asbestos removal, spray painting or spraying pesticides etc. you would need to add a (removable) prefilter, or get the version with the magenta P100 particulate filter permanently attached ( 3M 60926 Multi-Gas, Vapor Cartridge, P100 ). For the cheap 5N11 (not resistant to oil) or 5P71 (oil proof) prefilters you would need the 3M 501 filter retainer/adapter . Or you can use the 3M 502 filter adapter to attach any of the circular pancake (series 2000) filters such as the 3M 2091 P100 or the waterproof 3M 7093 P100 filters. I personally prefer this last setup (adding the 7093 P100 filter with the 502 adapter), as this offers the most flexibility: both the chemical cartridge and the particulate filter can still be used separately if only one form of protection (vapor or dust/aerosol) is needed (making breathing easier), and the 7093 is more splash resistant and offers more protection (99.97% vs 95%) compared to the 5N11 or 5P71 pads. For spray painting, however, the 5P71 pads also seem like a good solution as they are much cheaper to replace once saturated. Overall, highly recommended!
