I received a 15 gallon as a present but I did not know it would be so much work and money.** A: The test is easy to use; just remember to empty and rinse your vial after use, and rinse the vial with tank water (I dip some out with a small clean Dixie cup, then pour it into the vial and discard the water into the sink) before filling with water to do your test. And I examine the results under sunlight or a daylight spectrum fluorescent.If you are doing regular water changes(weekly and/or as your water tests say to), and keeping the tank clean, you will not have to use this test often. Do not overfeed, and do not overload your tank (put too many fish or put too big of a fish in it). At the start you should have ammonia and nitrite test kits, and test daily to see what is going on while your filter cycles, then as a doublecheck for water quality. And yes it can take a month or so for your filter to cycle.Goldfish have a reputation for being a cheap fish, and easy to take care of... I breed and keep fancies; and honestly, 3 goldfish per 55 gallon aquarium! A mature goldfish is about the size of an adult fist in body; and it is hard to keep water quality good for three that size in that size aquarium. In a 15 gallon no more than two small ones and they are going to grow and outgrow your tank. Half a dozen guppies or so will work, or a couple of mollies; or one betta.
