## Description

Tape Deck, Reel to Reel manual Head Demagnetizer Tape drive heads, capstans, and guides can become magnetized from long hours of operation. They can be demagnetized and restored like new. The DEM1 head demagnetizer is easy to use and has the required magnetic field to properly demagnetize the magnetic heads and guides of almost all REEL TO REEL, TAPE DECK, VHS DECK, and all other similar machines. It’s easy to use: plug into a 110 Volt AC socket, place the tip close to the recording head and use a slight rotary motion to cover the entire surface area of the head. Your machine will be demagnetized and will return to full and complete use. The DEM1 uses a standard 110V AC. Please take a look at the picture below. Comes in sealed blister packaging. “CE” conform.

Review: Easy to use, fits in small spaces, great for beginners - Super easy to use but I wish the cord was longer. I heard that there are better demagnetizers out there and some purists really frown upon this one but I wouldn’t believe the hype. Here’s the deal: magnetization in cassette decks happens but it’s such a small amount that it’s imperceptible except in the most severe cases. This unit may be small and weaker than others but it still has the strength to demagnetize a cassette head and the metal parts in the tape path. In fact it’s actually good that this demagnetized is a bit weaker than other brands because it helps ensure better accuracy when using it and you’re less likely to accidentally erase a tape or a hard drive or something by accident. The small size is perfect for getting into tight spaces like the inside of a Walkman. I’ve got two very compact Walkman models that I’m able to get into and demagnetize with this unit (the wm-2 and ex633). The first time using it is pretty scary because of all the warnings and the instructions but once you use this once you’ll get the hang of it quickly. Just be sure you keep anything that could be affected by the magnetic field about an arms length or two away from the demagnetizer when plugging it in and when unplugging it. Move slowly toward what you plan to demagnetize and slowly move from part to part in a straight line. For example, I’ll line up all the cassette players and decks I want to demagnetize all in a row with the cassette doors open. Then I place the demagnetizer in the center of the room as far from the devices I’m going to demagnetize as possible and plug it in. Then I move slowly (by slow I mean deliberately slower than you’d approach something normally but not abnormally slow like in slow motion, more like 70% of a nice leisurely pace) toward the decks I’m demagnetizing. From there I go from left to right in the cassette compartment. Run the head of the demagnetizer over the erase head, record, and play heads in a back and forth, sometimes circular, motion, then moving to the capstan and any other metal parts of the tape path. I keep the end of the demagnetizer over each part for about 3 seconds or so and touch the tip of it (always with the rubber cover on) to each part for a moment. You’ll feel a vibration when you touch it to metal. Then I keep going, left to right, to each device I’m demagnetizing in a row and repeat the process. I use this on every used cassette player I get after confirming they work. It’s part of the maintenance process. I’ll likely not use this for quite a long time but it’ll be there when I need it. It’s a good little device, it works, and it’s perfect for those just getting into cassette deck and portable player maintenance or repair.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Has anyone used this to demagnetize external hard drives to zero out computer data? Plz advise. Thx.**
A: Hi Carmen. No I have only used mine to demag cassette decks. No idea whether it would work with a hard drive. To do this surely you would be better with a programme to securely delete your HD data?

**Q: can this demagnetize a tool**
A: This is made specifically to demagnetize tape deck heads, and may not have enough power. If you are trying to demagnetize a small electronic screwdriver, it _may_ work. However, larger tools it probably wont. I've always just heated up tools to red hot and hitting them with a hammer to demagnetize.

**Q: Greetings. Can this device demagnetize an actual magnet? Thank you for the help you can offer on this.**
A: no...

**Q: it work with sony walkman WM-FX195?**
A: It probably will work. Where it does not work is on my car where you slide the cassette in lengthways.
