It does appear (based on measurements that I made upon delivery) that it is about 21 inches, as listed. Size is perfect for my needs. Materials and construction appear to be quite robust. I also had the problem (as I saw another individual listed) that there was no shoulder strap included with this unit (although it's listed by the seller, as well as Makita's website). I called the seller to discuss. I was told that they'd get one such strap out to me by mail. (They're based in the same state as where I live, only about a half-hour south of me). I was quite surprised to find the strap in my mailbox the very next day (less than 24 hrs from my call to them). Overall initial delivery timing was good (I don't use the Prime accelerated delivery system), and delivery of the missing piece was also obviously good.
