Pieces have a nice heft to them. They certainly won't slip or fall over as they are weighted, and felted on the bottom. Board is a conveniently portable silicone rubber mat with crisp, roomy black and white squares. The rows and column numbers and letters are clearly and unobtrusively marked. Two Queens per color is also a real plus. Yes, the Queens' crowns have little points,but these are not going to hurt anyone unless they deliberately jam their hand down on them. They really are super durable and quadruple weighted. Everything comes in a very nice, thick box which can easily store the set long-term and should hold up for a long time. Portland Chess Shop does it right (and I'm just a guy who purchased from Amazon due to the reviews... no affiliation with the vendor)!A NOTE ON THE BOARD (AKA: What you should expect): Silicon boards are amazing and are my favorite. This one is high-quality, lies flat even after being folded, fits the pieces perfectly, and has coordinates. That said, please expect it to pick up dust and to grip the pieces a little more tightly than boards made from other materials. It rinses off easily. I love how thin the board is.A NOTE ON THE QUEEN PIECES: 2 additional queens are provided, for pawn-promotion purposes. The set comes with the crowns wrapped in cardboard because they have very sharp points on the crowns. For my purposes, I like them a lot. They look great and are easy to handle. All the pieces are made to tournament quality. It is an excellent set to teach children how to play chess. The board folds up for easy storage. My only complaint would be that the pieces come in cheap plastic bag which may be replaced by zippered plastic bag. All fit into the box and can be taken anywhere. We filed down the tips on the Queen pieces which seemed rather sharp, but no biggie.
