The Yamaha SLG200S Silent GuitarTM has always been the perfect instrument for practice, travel, and performing—and the new Crimson Red Burst finish adds a bold, modern aesthetic to the collapsible rosewood and mahogany body. The SLG200S steel-string delivers ultra-quiet operation, while the Studio Response Technology (SRT) Powered preamp system provides superb sound quality through either headphones or the line output. Onboard studio-quality effects and a line input for jamming to backing tracks complete the package. The compact and lightweight SLG200S Crimson Red Burst provides everything you need for practicing—while its striking finish lets you stand out on stage.

Review: SLG200 Outdoes the old 100 for sure - This guitar is SO much fun to pop the included headphones in and practice with. Yamaha electronics are very accurate and you ARE actually hearing a full bodied guitar in the mic modeling mode. Fantastic. The blend with the piezo makes it way better than the first iteration of the instrument I previously owned - as well as the onboard tuner. The other differences between this version and the last: longer lasting AA battery usage (the old one ate 9v like crazy) and new effects controls. The previous version had ONLY detents, ie., one setting for each effect. On this version the effects are sweeping so you can dial in just the right amount of the effect you want. Also, it may just be my imagination, but I think the neck is a little differently shaped than the old - and I like this one better. The frame is a much better version of the old as well. Plugged in, there are adjustments to be made (as with every guitar), but very fun to play live on stage and easy to carry along. The only con doesn't have to do with the guitar at all, but the description. It is NOT a hard-side bad. A hard-side bag has plastic inserts that keep the bag from bending at all. This is a soft bag. That being said, the bag is thick and is fine for the job. Also, it is NOT "translucent black". There is simply a piece of black plastic that covers the wooden center of the instrument. It looks great - but not as great as a piece of wood stained in a translucent finish.

In the past when I thought of Yamaha I was thinking motorcycles so I was definitely somewhat skeptical when I placed the order. . Figured I could always return it. Well, the guitar truly does sound great, the built-in effects are nice, the built-in tuner is very accurate (compared it to several other tuners I’ve had for years.. the built-in tuner was spot on..) The action on the strings was very nice straight from the box fretboard feels nice and comfortable.. . It’s not as small as I thought it’d be for traveling as it’s pretty tall for a travel guitar but it’s light - relatively speaking. The gig bag is pretty nice and cleverly designed. I did order a second strap though. Instead of caring it over my shoulder I prefer to carry it like a backpack, with 2 straps. Yeah, I’m glad I decided to buy this guitar..

This guitar is SO much fun to pop the included headphones in and practice with. Yamaha electronics are very accurate and you ARE actually hearing a full bodied guitar in the mic modeling mode. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Feels like magic

I’ve been interested in these silent guitars for years, but could never convince myself to take the plunge and buy one. You can imagine how excited I was when it showed up under the Christmas tree this year. It is strikingly beautiful in person, and also feels amazing to touch. Details like the subtle beveling on the interior of the body that I didn’t notice in the photos are both practical and elegant. The real magic starts when you put on a pair of headphones and play. The sound is so rich and natural that it seems magical. It really is shockingly real. After seeing my reaction, everyone was quite curious. We ended up passing it around the Christmas tree so all of the visiting musicians could give it a try. Five of us play guitar. Our experience levels and styles cover wide range with everything from a self taught slide/blues dabbler, to a student with 5 years of classical training, to seasoned veterans with many decades of experience who usually play on very high end guitars. Every person who tried it was shocked at how real it sounded. Even our teenage musician who is going through a hardcore serious phase couldn’t help but be all smiles when he had it in his hands. I know it sounds a bit corny, but I feel honored to own it. So far I’ve been nothing but impressed, but I’ll post a followup if anything negative shows up in the future. Cheers!
