But after Dr Ken Berry urging me to try it, I went ahead and ordered some. I'm so glad I did! Cod liver isn't even 1/4 the fishiness of canned sardines or tuna. They are so soft like a really good pate and the taste is extremely mild. They do not have the metallic taste that land animal liver has so don't be afraid of that. I really like this smoked cod liver but personally I just prefer the plain one. I do prefer sardines to be smoked and packed in oil though. It seems to cut down on their fishiness. A suggestion for eating this is to dump the whole can with the oil onto a bed of mixed greens and add a few very thin slices of sweet red onion, some capers, and a splash of red wine vinegar. It makes for a wonderful light lunch. Also, sometimes I cube up and avocado and pour the oil and cod liver on top with a sprinkle of salt. It makes a very nutritious spread. I don't usually save the oil.
