You may reuse the roller cover as the core is hard plastic with holes in it - this allows for the self loading feature. I saw replacement covers at our local Lowes hardware store but you can get through Amazon like I did. I would suggest that a roller cleaning tool would be a good purchase. Home Right has a trick roller cleaner that you hook on your faucet that rinses the roller pretty easily. The nap length is rather short - probably 3/8". **Q: Do I have to buy a new roller every time I change colors? Or are the rollers able to clean and reuse** A: I am still looking at them, but have been painting for years. A good trick for quick and easy cleaning: A lot of wall paints are oil soluble, not water soluble. So, use vegetable oil to clean the roller. Then hot soapy water to remove the vegetable oil. Unless you buy a roller cleaner, of course. But veggie oil is my secret weapon against paint covered equipment. (Also helps remove it easily from carpet. Dilute the paint in veggie oil and then run a shampooer over it. Before it dries, of course.) **Q: Does it come with a splatter guard?** A: Yes, there's a plastic guard that covers about half the roller. It easily pops on and off. **Q: How easy is it to clean and how? Are there instructions that come with the EZ roller?** A: Instructions do come with the roller and are easy to follow. It takes up to 1/2 hour to clean after painting to get it completely clean and use again and again. We are using it to paint a number of rooms with very different colors. The time and mess it saves while painting is worth the clean up at the end. Seriously made my life easier *by C***E on July 22, 2018* If I could give this 10 stars I would. This product is amazing. I spent 2 days painting the trims by hand brush. Then 1 day to cut around the edges of the gray by hand brush. Then it took 3.5 hours to finish painting the entire house filling in the gray with this paint stick. It was so fast and easy.A few things to consider;1) the roller was pretty much near its last breath of life by the time I had finished. I did buy extra rollers but I kept using the first one until I finished. The paint started dripping a bit from the near tube end but I just used it carefully and finished the job with it.2) every stroke up or down you should turn the knob a little bit. You have to replace what's coming off the roller going on the walls so get into the hang of turning the knob slightly 1/4 turn with each 6-7 foot stroke.3) go slower if its textured surface. I had textured hardie panels and I had to go slow and steady to get the paint into the grooves of the texture.4) push the stick fully onto the feed tube. It goes in further than it looks. Dont be shy.....put it all the way in....twss5) if you throw away the old roller dont forget to remove the two end caps and the foam manifold inside the roller to use on the next replacement roller. I almost threw it out when cleaning.6) watch the YouTube video on cleaning. It's not anymore work than cleaning a paint tray and roller. Wash it well, use lots of water, put petroleum jelly on the seals, and end cap seal, put it back together and store it properly.7) be careful how much force you apply using the tube. If you over do it and bend or kink the tube it will break the seal and cause a leak in your handle. I can see some people going crazy pushing the stick like it's a shovel and then crying why it leaks everywhere. If you have to push that that, it means you don't have enough paint on the roller. Turn that knob and relax. Stroke that tube up and down, nice slow and steady. Don't need to go crazy on that tube.... is it getting warm in here?Anyways I've seen some bad reviews and mostly good reviews. I assure you will not be disappointed. I'll never paint again without this. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Time saver, Easy. Take a little time & learn about it. *by R***H on January 10, 2019* I know many people of all ages who like to just barge in and do what they've done for years with the tray and paint - but if you take just a second to learn the simple mechanics of how this works, this saves and saves time. Think about it - not making trip after trip to the tray whether a foot away or a room away, not refilling the tray, to getting half a wall done without having to over-saturate the roller being extra careful for drips even if you have cloth down. It's unbelievable. Buy the 5 gallon, put the filling stem in - Boom, ready.It's been a long time since I read other reviews about issues, but I never had any. There was one fluke where it wanted to drip from the stem, but it went away. Assuming the plastic just needed to "burp" into place after filling. But no biggie - pays off big time. Especially in a closet. All the turning and angling trying to move quick beat the clock.Tip - if you fill up all the way (pole is now the longest til you use your paint, it gets shorter), use half the paint in your roller on it the easiest, room providing areas in the closet (or another room), then use the rest of the paint when the pole is shortest on those tricky, hard to reach areas. Just cut in corners before/after with a brush, but even with it's one-size roller (I think), still works great. Or, don't fill up the roller so much doing tight areas.I didn't let it set over a week a couple times during painting, but I plastic wrapped my roller, and it worked just fine. I wouldn't suggest it, but I get super busy, so I roll the dice on things. When you're all, all done, just take a sec to soak and flush everything. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works great - if you view it as disposable *by J***S on January 3, 2017* This product works great and saves a ton of time and mess - once you figure out how to use it properly - and once you view it and especially the roller covers as disposable.Helpful tips:- Don't push out too much paint at once or it will start dripping. Slow and steady.- Replace the roller cover with every use. Took a while to figure this out, and hard pill to swallow at $5 each, but worth it in time and frustration. Inevitably, the roller will develop a blowout at one hole and start squirting out paint life a fountain, filling the drip tray which will then drip everywhere. If you're near the end of the job you can get by, but otherwise it's time to replace. Also tossing the roller at the end of the job cuts cleanup time in half.- Watch videos how to clean up after use - you're probably doing it wrong. And again, toss the roller instead of cleaning. Went from 45 min clean-up to about 15 min now.- The 3/4 inch roller lays a nice thick base of paint - great for textured ceilings - but also shoots speckles of paint everywhere compared to the standard 3/8 which is very clean. So you have to decide if you want the trade off.- Be willing and ready to replace the entire stick. This thing is plastic and gets a lot of torque pressure when filled with paint and extended. Bound to break at some point.- It gets heavy when filled with paint - especially when painting overhead.- Easy to paint 8 foot ceilings. 9 foot ceilings are a stretch, but doable.We're currently painting an entire house. At current rate thinking we will go through 4 sticks and 20 rollers - so about $200. But I still think that's worth the convenience this roller provides.UPDATE (3/20/17): Finished painting an entire 1500 SF house, walls and ceilings. Went though 3 of the sticks and 12 rollers to do it all.More Tips / Annoyances:- Once you get the hang of it, and if you have the floor covered, take off the guard to speed things up. You can paint ceiling to floor in almost one stroke.- Tight areas such as powder rooms are near impossible with this thing. You will constantly hit the wall behind you, and if you try weird angles it drips.- Some sticks failed at the paint intake valve. Even with lots of the included petroleum, seal eventually stops working and it starts spurting.- Every roller develops a blowout where it starts spurting paint and is near useless after this point. Messy to change out mid-job.- Already mentioned, clean up is a pain.
