I have other kits for taking apart phones, and while everything in this kit worked fine, my other kits are actually better. Nevertheless, if this is a one-time repair, you should be fine. - The most important problem: The quality of the display is quite a bit less than my previous screen / my spare phone screen. It is not as bright either. One thing I noticed is that after installing the screen, the phone automatically changed my settings from "Less Warm" to "Very Warm" under the night-shift setting. By putting the setting all the way to "Less Warm," That helped quite a bit. Nevertheless, a side-by-side comparison of my two phones reveals that the new screen looks "dingy" and a lot less vibrant. Review: iPhone 12 Mini - Good DIY product but it was it's not as easy as described...learn from my mistakes - I bought a replacement battery for my 12 mini a few months back, then started having intermittent issues with the touch screen after I accidentally took it in my swimming pool. So I ordered this kit and decided to do both installs. I went to YouTube school on the install of both pieces before I started. My conclusion after finishing this job is it's a lot harder than most of the comments would imply. And of course the people putting out YouTube videos do this all the time and have the tools and work environment complimentary to the job. I'm an electronics tech but this is my first try with an iPhone screen: First step is to get the phone hot enough to soften the evil adhesive that Apple puts inside the 12 Mini. One of the videos the guy even commented on how sticky the glue on this particular model is. In the videos they have a special mat that they put the phone down on that heats the whole screen evenly all the way around, and they simply stick the plastic pick in and pry the screen off. If, like me you use a hair dryer, this process is very difficult...you need to get the whole rim of the phone super hot to even make a dent in this stuff. Probably should have used a heat gun but I was afraid of getting it too hot...no worries there. As a result I didn't get it hot enough and ended up trashing the screen, it came off in 3 layers, the outer touch, the substrate, and left the rest still glued in leaving the sensor array attached to the main phone body. Even after that I had a hard time prying the last piece off the phone frame and getting rid of all the black glue. The other thing that looks easy in videos is replacing the tiny screws that hold the plates and sensors in. These things are as small as a deer tick and twice as annoying. There are 3 bit styles and unless your eyes are really sharp you need a magnifier to tell the diff. Magnetizing them helps a bit. Also a magnetic tray from Harbor Freight to hold the screws is a good thing. If you have sausage fingers or the shakes you will have a tough time with these. A lighted magnifier is very helpful for this whole job. Anyway after those difficulties I got the thing back together and was gratified to see it light up and work. It now gives me a message that I don't have a genuine Apple battery or display, not sure if I will lose any functionality but we'll see. The display looks good and the touch works well. The kit comes with all the tools you need (except of course a heated mat LOL). It comes with one strong pick to help pry the screen off. Find a guitarist and borrow a half dozen more because you need to hold the screen back as you go around it once you finally get it to give up and separate from the phone. A set of tweezers, 3 screwdrivers, an adhesive gasket so you can reinstall the glue that made it such a pain in the first place. If you leave that out, which is tempting, I presume it would lose it's water resistance. It even comes with a nice glass screen protector. A pic attached of what happens when you don't get it hot enough and get the pic between the top layer of the screen... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better screen quality than expected *by D***P on July 25, 2020* I ordered a replacement battery for my iPhone 5S off Amazon (it's the 3rd battery it's had), but the latest DIY repair didn't go so well: after hooking all the connectors back up, I had nothing: the old screen didn't light up, phone wouldn't reboot, etc. despite trying to charge the new battery overnight, etc. So I took it apart again, and looked closely at the traces on connectors and spotted a crimp that looked a bit hinky. So I took a chance, and ordered this screen replacement assembly off Amazon. 1st I verified my hunch was correct (I was worried that I'd somehow damaged the logic board, but fortunately that wasn't the case). With all the screen replacement connectors attached, the red discharge screen appeared on my phone screen when I tried to turn it on, and after a few minutes the phone rebooted. I breathed a sigh of relief, as I was at the point of wondering whether I was just throwing good money after bad (I use it as my back-up phone, mostly for gym use). There's only so many times you can disconnect cables before you end up with a small unnoticeable broken trace, connector, etc, but I was back in business! I then powered it off, and replaced the generic home button with the OEM part (to retain the Touch ID unlock feature), and reinstalled all the connectors and screws. Unfortunately, at the very last step of inserting the screen into the main body, I ended up cracking the new glass screen by applying a bit too much pressure (I heard a snap, but thought it was the screen assembly clicking into the retainer clip of the main assembly casing). Fortunately, the crack is small and diagonal (in the upper left hand corner), and it's confined to the area overlying the signal strength indicator of cellular provider, so it isn't too noticeable when in use when you're holding the phone straight on. So although the crack is kind of a buzz kill (I get the sense that the screen glass isn't up to quality of the OEM part), it's not worth dissembling the phone again to replace it again (again: there's only so many times you can insert and remove those multi-trace connectors before you end up breaking the connector on the logic board end). The front camera, speaker, proximity sensor, all seem to work as good as OEM parts (my upper speaker went out years ago, so its nice to have that functionality back; I was taking and placing calls in speaker-phone mode, which uses the lower mic/speaker). As far as the image quality of the new screen, I was pleasantly surprised: it's nice and bright, with no obvious pixelation, blue tint, dead pixels, etc, even after it was back in it's Otter Box Defender case (which has a thin plexiglass covering on it. I also ended up leaving the shipping screen protector on, since degradation of image quality is not too much to effect legibility).
