If your spot treating small scars, just put your finger on the opening, tip the bottle upside down and that small amount is all you need. If you’re treating a few spots, turn the bottle upside down and dispense a single drop onto your finger. For treating larger areas, work in small amounts at a time—you can always add a little more if needed. When you rub it into the skin, there will be a slight film left—it’s meant to do that. Give it a few mins after rubbing it in and you’ll see it’s absorbed and wonderfully moisturizing. I have not tested this lot of product personally, nor have I contacted NOW to ask, but I've used it in the past and I'd safely assume this is pure Tocopheryl Acetate based on the IU claim of 70,000 per 2.5oz. It's actually a conservative number, probably closer to 73,900 IU in theory, but it's a testimony to the honesty of NOW to short the claim! As a QC chemist, I can tell you that's a good sign in any manufacturer, and the lower IU claim helps account for any reduced potency. Reduced potency is common with commercial products, and generally results from long storage in some relatively uncontrolled warehouse, short term excessive heat during shipping, light exposure, etc.. so the product you actually receive probably is ~70,0000 IU.Anyway, "Tocopheryl Acetate" is a thick, sticky mess, and that's just how it is. If you cut it with 50% thin veg oil (like grape seed) it makes it much easier to work with. I keep the stock bottle in the fridge, and a 50% diluted aliquot in a dropper bottle out to use, then just mix up more as I need it. It's best to keep the stock stored cold in amber glass because all isomers and esters of Vit. E are very UV sensitive, and heat is the enemy also. In the future, NOW might consider using actinic or amber containment for this product. You can wrap the outside of the bottle with aluminum foil if you don't have another darker containment vessel to transfer it to. As for specific composition, it's likely synthetic for the price (but not necessarily) and it's mixed DL isomers of alpha, beta, gamma and delta forms of Tocopheryl. Ironically, the biologically superior Alpha form is the most inferior anti-oxidant, so I prefer this kind of mixed product if I'm seeking a good, oil soluble anti-oxidant. It is almost certainly 18-25% Alpha form based on all my experiences with this raw material. If you are interested in maximum biological activity, then pure distilled "D-alpha-Tocopherol" is what you want. This is it's natural free alcohol form. It's physical characteristics are identical to the other forms (thick and gooey) but it's a golden brown color in free form (only the Acetates are clear/yellow colored.) I greatly prefer the Acetates because they prolong the storage life. If it breaks down in the bottle, it forms free Vit. E with a little acetic acid (vinegar) which helps prevent auto-oxidation of the free Vit. E, and that's a good thing. Free form alpha Vit. E is far less stable (especially most affordable commercial forms with trace impurities), and must be stored more carefully and used more rapidly. Highly recommended! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I used this to treat the dryness after a Heat Rash & prevent scarring. *by D***S on July 30, 2016* Story time! Whenever it's over 100 degrees my skin starts to boil. Not news to anyone right? Everyone cooks in 100 degree weather. Well i work outside for 6-8 hours a day sometimes 16 days in a row no days off. So i got a Heat Rash on the back of my hands, insides of my elbows and (a week later) on my face. I puffed up like a balloon needless to say I was hideous! So incase you don't know a heat rash occurs when your sweat glands are blocked so i couldn't use anything to bring down the "swelling" except aloe and patients. it only took an hour to get it but in a few days it would be gone nothing else worked. But after the heat rash went away i had a dry rash my skin was dry only on the spots where the rash was it peeled several layers of skin off at once so i bled very easily and it itched like crazy. No lotion or creams worked and I was sure it would scar. Ohh and i was still hideous. So my mom suggested Vitamin E oil. i picked this brand because the reviews were less drastic than the other products offered (some of the other ones they either loved it or hated it no in between) When i used it i was surprised to find out that it was very thick. The exact consistency of honey! But don't worry heat from rubbing helps it spread, I found it's better to place a dot directly from the bottle to the area you want it and then rubbing it in. putting it in your hand and rubbing your hands together like lotion is impossible because of how thick even a small drop is. for your face put drops on your finger tips then dab it on your face before rubbing in. I have been TRYING to remember to use this every day but as my skin cleared i got lazy but it's been a month and a half and my hand looks almost how it used to look is smooth to the touch just a lighter and/or darker shade than the rest of my skin. i only used it at night because it does feel like it clogs my pores and i want my skin to breath while i'm outside. but using it once a day doesn't seem to limit what it can do. i wouldn't advise anyone to use if they still have a heat rash i tried using it while my face was still puffy but it didn't help at all. Of course i'm not a doctor and this is my personal experience I'd tell you to consult your doctor but i didn't so why should i pretend to be responsible? But i do recommend this product and brand!
