I was able to follow the proper cable by pinpointing the cable at various points along its path using the manual power receiving settings and medium power transmit at the panel. I have not used the meter enough at this point in time to properly evaluate all its functions but I also have no reason to think that it won't perform as described if used properly. Very easy to use and very accurate if the settings are manipulated correctly. Good manual. Also, as this meter is new to me I haven't put it through the rough conditions that I sometimes encounter on a job site. Seems to be well built, but I won't know how long it will last until I've put it through a few tough jobs. Very accurate and detailed at the right settings. I strongly recommend this to any and all troubleshooting sparky's in the field. (looking for a cut sprinkler solenoid wire)** A: It should be able to track which ever end of the wire it is attached to up to the cut point. But not all the way through the circuit. I.e. if a wire is cut in half and this is attached to the left side it can trace the wire up to the left side of the cut. To trace the right side, you would have to hook it to the right side of the cut wire. **Q: How do I use this to find speaker wire in the ceiling? There are wire coming in through the entertainment center area and they go up into the ceiling.** A: You clip active transmitter to exposed wire ends. Turn on receiver and adjust to a level just high enough to receive signal. Move receiver around area until you get the strongest signal and follow with receiver to end. **Q: Will this work on live circuits behind plaster walls and will it find circuit breakers for labeling?** A: Yes to both **Q: can this unit find where a break in contiunity is? IE a snipped or kinked wire** A: Yes, I use it for to find breaks in underground dog fence. It gets weak around 500 ft and you need to hook into the wire again, but I'm fencing 13+ acres for my German Shepherds to run. We have a lot of deer "hooves" and critters that will cut or chew the wire. The unit seemed to work very well for this project which was the primary reason it was purchased. I would like to see better/clearer instructions for use.
