We have started taking them camping this summer and want to give them a little freedom to explore the play areas while sticking together. I must stay in contact with them some how because they are still very young - BUT - I also want them to learn responsibility of staying in contact and being nice to (yet weary of) others. This is a tricky skill to teach!!! I want to give them free range, but the helicopter mom in me is screaming. We opened these watches today and so far I am loving them! No hand held talkie to leave in the sandbox and forget about :-). No talkie to have to have banging on a necklace around our necks. I allowed my 6 year old to run down about a half mile to the culdasack (spelling?) of our neighborhood and it sounded perfectly clear. I think they will have good range for my needs. We will probably use them up to a mile. We also tested them from different rooms of the house and there seems to be no problems with thick walls. They are rather large on my 6 year olds' wrist, but they will not fall off - so it will be no problem. The directions are a bit hard to follow, but I have never worked with walkie talkies before. I think people who have used talkies before will be fine.
