I had a spring loaded knob from a local hardware store and the spring was exposed and did not work as well. **Q: How long is the latch from the end of the casing to the tip of the latching mechanism?** A: It measures 1" from the edge of the casing to the end of the white tip mechanism. Vertically it is 1 1/2". **Q: The screws on my door are exactly 1 inch apart, will this housing fit without have to drill new holes?** A: I can't tell you that. If this is what you are removing, then it will fit. I have found that it doesn't do as well as I had hoped in holding the door shut, but does better than nothing. **Q: What size screws do I need?
