I used it to cut a hole in 1 inch quartz.  The hole guide that was provided was very useful, keep from chipping edges.  I built a dam around hole with plumbers putty, added water and started drilling.  I used a battery operated drill at medium speed.  It took a while but it did the job.

They work well if you keep the speed very low and keep the heat down by drilling in water or dripping water constantly while drilling.  By slow, I mean about as slow as any drill will go and still turn.  I used cordless and could easily count the revolutions.
