The lights are not super bright -- will not illuminate an area -- but add a nice accent/glow to keep a dark area from feeling dark. Just dont plan on getting any useable light from them. My charger was in direction sun for 6-8 hours a day which gave me 4-5 hours of light at night. After about 12 months, I noticed the length of light at night start to reduce down to about 1-2 hours by 18 months. The Charger does have a removable battery, but it's not a normal battery type, so I imagine I'd have to take it to a Batteries+ to find a rechargeable replacement.
