You fill the upper part with water and your chosen oil. I bought this type of essential oil diffuser, because I like candle light and it was a very inexpensive replacement for a steam diffuser. It does get pretty hot so not at all suitable for people who may be a bit careless or forgetful. It's just a nice relaxing gentle item. You could also use wax melts in the top part. I have asbestos fingers so that's fine! Ease of use: Excellent to use Sturdiness: A fairly well made item but it is not chunky Effectiveness: Yes, you do get the lovely scent in a gentle way. Ease of cleaning: Easy to clean once cool Value: Very pretty for the money. Overall a great item. My only suggestion is that it should have a cork mat to protect surfaces.
