Maybe a cup shy. **Q: I need to know the dimensions of the bottom of the container-- not the lid. Otherwise it won't fit what I need it for.** A: The bottom is 8-1/2 X 12-3/4 but the sides do go out a bit adding 1/4" so the box is 8-3/4 X 13. Hope this helps. **Q: Do you think 12 pounds of small kibble would fit inside? Will it keep ants out?** A: I was able to fit 15 pounds of rice in it with no problem!
