## Overview

Dr. Naylor's Dehorning Paste is a 4 oz topical solution designed to prevent horn growth in calves and kids by targeting horn buds early (3-7 days old). This non-surgical, easy-to-apply paste offers a humane alternative to traditional dehorning methods, minimizing animal stress and owner effort. Highly rated and trusted by rural farmers, it requires careful application with complementary products like udder balm and vinegar for neutralization, ensuring a clean and effective process.

## Description

Of the various dehorning methods available today, dehorning with paste is easiest on the animal – and the owners, too. Simply locate the cattle’s horns, clip the hair around the horns, outline the area with a marker, apply Dr. Naylor’s Udder Balm around the area and apply Dr. Naylor’s Dehorning Paste.

Review: It worked! - I disbudded my two Nigerian Dwarf/Nubian cross babies with this product. Three months later no signs of any horns and the hair has covered the holes. I think the trick to this product is to make sure to get it applied early when you can just barely feel the buds forming. I've never done this before, but I live very rurally and there are no goat vets under a 100 miles, so I am forced to learn. I read the directions carefully, watched several YouTube vids, enlisted a friend to help me hold them, took a deep breath and pressed on. There were several pro and con opinions on using this method, but I did not want horns for safety reasons so I had no choice but to go with this. Everything went smoothly and there were no problems with the healing. I would have preferred to have a vet perform the procedure, but you do what you have to do when living where services are sometimes non-existent.
Review: won’t know until the horns do not come in in the next couple of weeks - After watching a couple YouTube videos, I felt pretty confident about using this dehorning pace. I was a little skeptical because I didn’t think it would actually get the job done, but it seems to have completely eaten through the horn tissue of a buckling that I’ve used it on and I will post pictures once it’s updated And his horns actually don’t go in but so far it looks like it got the job done. I think it’s good for the price. You do have to be very careful because it is pretty messy so I would recommend using gloves and a tip that I saw on YouTube was also to add duct tape over the pace on the horn cavity while it is doing its thing. My baby goats visibly looked uncomfortable, and they kept trying to scratch their head. If you don’t use either duct tape or plastic wrap, it will get everywhere and it will start to burn their hair off wherever it comes to contact with. Also, make sure you have vinegar on hand. Water did not deactivate it. But vinegar neutralized it so you will have to use vinegar to actually neutralize the chemical itself. This pace is really good. I think it’s a better alternative to surgical and hot ironing but you do have to be very cautious because it is a very hard Chemical.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How many calves can I disbud with one jar of your product?**
A: Dosage and Administration
Clip off the hair over and around the horn button. With a wood applicator, apply the paste to a spot the size of a quarter once only.
Apply as soon as the horn button can be felt - when the calf or kid is three (3) to seven (7) days old. Keep the animal tied away from others and out of the rain for at least six (6) hours.

Dehorning Older Calves: To dehorn older calves, six (6) to eight (8) weeks of age, where the horn button has started to grow, remove the hair and roughen a ring approximately one-quarter (1/4) inch wide around the base of the horn where it joins the skin, with a small scraper or file (do not draw blood). Apply a thin film of paste over the horn button and over the roughened ring around the horn button. Apply once only.

Be particular to apply a thin even coating and only as directed. The reason it is advisable to remove the hair over the horn button before applying the paste is that it is then easier to see that the application is in the right place and in direct contact with the skin.

To further contain the Dehorning Paste, form a ring of udder balm or petroleum jelly around the horn button prior to application.

Caution(s): Poison. Keep from children's reach.

Antidote: External: Flood with water, then wash with vinegar.

**Q: Can this be used on nigerian goats? And if so, how long shoyld i leave it on before removing?**
A: Yes, Prevents horn growth in calves and kids. Apply as soon as the horn button can be felt, when the calf or kid is 3 to 7 days old. You may leave it for 6 hours.
