Me and my husband use them for smoothies. They are wider than regular straws and I imagine they would be good for milkshakes too. I love the look and they seem sturdy, although as of now (knock on wood) we haven't dropped one. We rinse them well immediately after use and put them in the dishwasher. The color selection doesn't appeal to me ask that much, but that's just personal preference. My husband loves the colors. We store them in the cloth bag they came with the straws. You also get a skinny brush for cleaning.
