Look up your DE filter make and model number to find the correct multiport valve to use. **Q: Will it fit model s244s** A: Yes **Q: With the 2" pipes pointed up, is the backwash exit on the right?** A: Ok, you should have received a diagram with valve but here goes. On your photo the two pipes facing up go in and out of the filter. These pipes also have a threaded ring that mates to the filter in/out ports. Assuming you have a Hayward filter. If you rotate valve 90 degrees down the two pipes will be level to the ground. If you stand in front of the valve there should be two ports on the left side and one on the right( these are 2 inch threaded ports. The two ports on the left are slightly offset. The higher port is the inlet port, coming from your pump. The lower port, slightly toward the front, is the return to the pool port. The port on your right is discharge out( backwash). Also this port has a glass bubble that when you back wash you see the water quality being discharged. You can also go online to look up Hayward valve schematics.
