The opposite side eith a split is for small lenses or eyes . **Q: Can it stand on the countertop ?** A: Yes you can stand it up on a countertop. If using sclera lenses you stand it up, place lens, add fluid then lower down to insert **Q: can u use this for hard contacts?** A: I don't really know; this device is mainly for soft contacts. You might be able to use it for getting hard lenses out of your eye--but, it's not particularly designed for hard lense removal from the eye.
