I would be cautious of using any sort of chemicals around something you will be eating. We have a peonie garden of over 200 plants, and every year we spend days pulling tall grass from the flowers. This year we sprayed the ground 3 times before the plants emerged, and it killed the grass, and the flowers are doing the best they have ever done. It does take 3 weeks to kill the grass though.
