These are shipped with a heavily oiled blade, covered with a nicely fitted plastic bag, so could probably sit around for years with no blade rust, while in the original packaging. The sheath is wood with some sort of thick hard plastic exterior, perhaps a heat shrink plastic. It is beautifully done and completely tight. I like it because I think it will be EXTREMELY durable and allow me to carry it often in the truck and hiking without worrying about it, while being 100% waterproof. I just cleaned and oiled the blade. It is perfectly straight, nicely polished, and easily slices paper from the tip clear down to the guard. So… This katana is an AMAZING BARGAIN for $70. So for the price it's a pretty good buy. The fittings are tight and the blade is sharp. the Saya is cheap feeling but still fits tight and no rattle.
