But the “original” flavor (which has zero pepper) was so tasty – and Michael, the owner, said that the “Black Pepper” and “Garlic and Chili” were Very mild, so I gave them a chance. I’m sharing this info here for those here who, like me, are sensitive to spice.So here’s the deal: The Original is amazing and for ANYONE who loves the taste of bacon! Bacon is the FIRST ingredient. And a little goes a long way. I’ve had it so far on an omlette (after cooking), a piece of rye toast with a slice of cheese, and I even used to dip with pretzel crisps. (The latter did taste a bit too salty, but that’s the chip’s fault, not the bacon spread.While I’m mentioning salt, this product is surprisingly low in sodium with just 90mg in a TABLEspoon. (and you will probably use a TEAspoon or less when spreading on things. And calories? Just 50 !After trying the Original, I tried the “Black Pepper” variety. I have to honestly say it did leave some heat on my tongue and I would suggest that sensitive palates choose the original. (Really, the pepper is only different ingredient. But if you aren’t sensitive, go for it!The third variety was the “garlic and chili”. I thought that would be even spicier than the Black Pepper one but it wasn’t. The chili pepper is the LAST ingredient and, while hit did have a “warm taste” when I tried it on a plain cracker, when I put on another omelet or spread on some rye bread and topped with boiled ham, I tasted the sweetness, but the heat didn’t come through to bother me.There seem to be a lot of “Bacon related” products out. I see them at the New York Fancy Food Show every year. There are bacon flavored cookies, popcorn, chocolates and even cocktails. But this is best and most versatile condiment I’ve tasted yet.The jars are 8.5 oz and are shelf stable until opened.
