## Description

Construct a robust end-to-end solution for analyzing and visualizing streaming data Real-time analytics is the hottest topic in data analytics today. In Real-Time Analytics: Techniques to Analyze and Visualize Streaming Data , expert Byron Ellis teaches data analysts technologies to build an effective real-time analytics platform. This platform can then be used to make sense of the constantly changing data that is beginning to outpace traditional batch-based analysis platforms. The author is among a very few leading experts in the field. He has a prestigious background in research, development, analytics, real-time visualization, and Big Data streaming and is uniquely qualified to help you explore this revolutionary field. Moving from a description of the overall analytic architecture of real-time analytics to using specific tools to obtain targeted results, Real-Time Analytics leverages open source and modern commercial tools to construct robust, efficient systems that can provide real-time analysis in a cost-effective manner. The book includes: A deep discussion of streaming data systems and architectures Instructions for analyzing, storing, and delivering streaming data Tips on aggregating data and working with sets Information on data warehousing options and techniques Real-Time Analytics includes in-depth case studies for website analytics, Big Data, visualizing streaming and mobile data, and mining and visualizing operational data flows. The book's "recipe" layout lets readers quickly learn and implement different techniques. All of the code examples presented in the book, along with their related data sets, are available on the companion website.

Review: A decent review - I hesitated how many stars this book deserved, five or four. The book is a review of some available technologies and methods. It is a decent effort to teach complicated mathematical stuff to software developers, who usually know addition, sometimes subtraction and multiplication, but rarely any math more advanced than that. On the negative side, the author's manner of explaining things is pretty unclear. Whenever he tries to explain complex matters, even though it is hard, he could try better.
Review: Helpful and interesting - I have read first 6 chapters of the book and just browsed remaining 5 chapters because at the moment their subject is less interesting for me. My overall impression of the book is quite positive. Probably, I will return to it again and again. Given book presents an architecture for real-time analytics and explains what blocks you need to build it. Then it goes thru more details for each construction block, like data ingestion, real-time processing, and shows what alternative tools you may choose from. Each tool of choice is described in more details. In particular details are given for ZooKeeper, Flume, Kafka, Storm, and Samza. However, certainly one can find more detailed explanation for each of them in their manuals, or in books specifically devoted to those tools. I was surprised that book on real-time analytics even doesn't mention Spark streaming. Explanations are clear and concise. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.

### ⭐⭐⭐ I feel good that I know most of them in this book
*by H***A on March 20, 2015*

I am working on a SPARK based real time reporting project, I thought I can learn some new techniques, I feel good that I know most of them in this book. Not really useful to me, but it is a good book if you are not already exposed to the domain.
