The fresher, the better. Short of doing it yourself or trekking to a local roaster, I've found this brand to be a good compromise for their regular (i.e. caffeinated) beans. The flavor and crema produced in this decaf offering, while still not quite that of a regular bean, is still far superior to the big brands I've tried. Presumably, those are likely roasted months before shipping. One important note: It's definitely not completely caffeine free.
