The Art of Rock traces the history of this energizing art form from the bold letterpress posters advertising Elvis’s early shows, through the multicolored fantasies of the psychedelic era, to the avant-garde collages of new wave and punk. More than 1,500 posters and other graphics―tickets, backstage passes, buttons, handbills―are presented in their original blazing color (or their stark black and white, as the case may be). The text features dozens of exclusive interviews with musicians, concert promoters, and the poster artists themselves, including legends like Stanley Mouse, Alton Kelley, or Wes Wilson―who also designed the cover of this book. A visual journey through thirty years of rock and roll, as well as a valuable reference, The Art of Rock is an essential volume for every music lover (and art lover). Review: Fun! - It's very interesting. There are a lot of posters in it, and it's very organized and easy to read. It's also a great read, so you can skim through it quickly or take your time. It's a really fun book. Thank you! Review: A well illustrated enjoyable book of the old days. - This book is large, heavy and expensive but well worth it. It is beautifully printed in bright colors of all the posters I remember during the hippy years of the sixties and seventies. I remember going into "head shops" with incents burning and black lights aglow seeing many of these band posters is very much memory lane inducing fun, at least for me. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | Best Sellers Rank | #241,370 in Books ( See Top 100 in Books ) #5 in Antique & Collectible Posters (Books) #121 in Art Encyclopedias #720 in Rock Music (Books) | | Customer Reviews | 4.6 out of 5 stars 282 Reviews | ## Images ![The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61c+W4RIj2L.jpg) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fun! *by T***M on March 2, 2026* It's very interesting. There are a lot of posters in it, and it's very organized and easy to read. It's also a great read, so you can skim through it quickly or take your time. It's a really fun book. Thank you! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A well illustrated enjoyable book of the old days. *by A***R on May 1, 2026* This book is large, heavy and expensive but well worth it. A LARGE SIZE REPRINT OF THIS GREAT BOOK. *by S***N on January 16, 2016* This large size edition of this book has been o.o.p. for a number of years. The only edition available until now was the much smaller edition-almost a pocket-size version. Just be aware that this new edition (printed in Oct. 2015) is a bit smaller than the 80's edition by about an inch or so. The original hardcover edition was approximately 13" X 11" X 1 3/4" (the last measurement including the hardcovers), and had 516 pages. This new edition has the same number of pages as the earlier edition. Plus there's no dust jacket, but this new edition's cover is embossed which is pretty cool. I just thought if you were familiar with the original edition you might assume this newest edition is identical to that one. But when all is said and done the slightly smaller dimensions is a minor quibble. This new edition is well worth owning if you don't already have the original version. The printing is nicely done and the essays are informed. Grab this while it's still available if you're into rock poster history--and if you love rock and poster art from those years--when posters became a new art form (1950's and beyond), this is for you. For all of us who remember many of these posters it's a good trip back to another time. And for those who missed that whole era this is a nice signpost for a time in the late '60s/early '70s when music was really important, not just a life-style choice. ## Frequently Bought Together - The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk - Poster Child: The Psychedelic Art & Technicolor Life of David Edward Byrd - 1000 Record Covers --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.tn/products/18582483-the-art-of-rock-posters-from-presley-to-punk](https://www.desertcart.tn/products/18582483-the-art-of-rock-posters-from-presley-to-punk) --- *Product available on Desertcart Tunisia* *Store origin: TN* *Last updated: 2026-10-03*
