With 3/4 will work as well but it will be a little loose . This is required by inspectors convine with a insulation jacket which help to protect the foam overtime and keep the cool of the AC **Q: Is this resistant to UV light (sunlight)?** A: I forgot to mention in my previous answer how to protect this insulation. I used 4 inch flexible ribbed drain pipe and split it lengthwise for the length of the insulation that I was using outside on my Air conditioning unit To my concrete block wall where it entered my home.. Then I merely wrapped the 4 inch drain pipe around the insulation and wire tied it about the circumference of the pipe in three or four places. This protects it from the sun and was a very inexpensive option and a neater and more secure job. Plus I already had 100 feet of flexible ribbed light weight drain pipe lying around. But it is so cheap and durable enough to last 20 or 30 years.
