As soon as it arrived I tested a 35mm color negative. It's really simple to use, as soon as you set up the scanner and slide in the negative, you can see the image immediately on the screen. It's so enjoyable and quick and the quality exceeded my expectations. You do need to buy a 32GB SD card or 32GB SDHC card. It will not work with larger GB or with SDXC cards. Setup: Plug in the USB-C/USB cable (provided) into the scanner. USB-C side goes into the scanner, and the USB side goes into to your PC or to a wall adapter. Open the hinged slide holder and insert the adapter for 135mm, 126mm or 110mm depending on what film you are using, and then snap it closed again. Use right/left arrows on the top of the machine to select film type and then click OK. Select the film size and click OK. Make sure your film is right side up, and slide the negative into the slide holder on the right side of the scanner. Smile when you see your image on the screen! You will need to adjust the film so that the image is centered on the scanner, and then press the large OK button again. Slide the film further in until you can see the next image. Press OK to scan. Once you can't push the film in any further, you can insert the next piece of film and it will push the first one through and out the left side. I found a few times where the film was curved and wouldn't go in past the first image. Frankly the mediocre to poor resolution resolution makes the large file size a waste. 35mm negs are usually curved and not held flat enough to get it sharp. Individual 35mm negs (not on a strip) are totally out of focus and the negs at the end of each strip will have curl on one side which not only reduces resolution, it creates a similar effect to spherical aberration on one side **Q: Can you push the slides through or do you have to reload the tray?** A: There is no tray, you push the 1st slide in. It is not in the center for the picture to show completely so you use the 2nd slide to push the 1st slide in position and after digitizing the 1st slide you continue to push the 2nd slide all the way in. The 1st slide is not yet all the way out so you push the 3rd slide in a little way so you can get the 1st slide out. Continue with all your slides. Once you do about 10-15 slides it become very routine and works well. **Q: Is this scanner compatible with Mac?** A: Yes. Very glad I bought it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gets scans done quickly *by N***A on August 25, 2023* If you have tons of negative and slides you want to bring into the digital world, this device will get the job done. I hooked mine up to a MacBook via a USB port to power the device. The setup is straightforward out of the box. Plug in the USB cable to the laptop and the back of the device and press the power button. It took me a minute or two to figure out how to open the feed cassette to insert the adapters for different size media, as I didn't want to manhandle the plastic carrier (it hinges along the long top edge and has an over-center clip along the bottom edge that needs a little prying to open). The manual is good for describing step to take to get into scanning quickly. What you have to figure out on your own is how to use the Brightness and RGB options to render best results from your scan. I had almost 2,000 slides/negatives sitting unloved in boxes. In about three hours I had all of them scanned and uploaded into Mac Photos. The SD card (32GB max size) that you install in back of the scanner shows up as a device in Photos. When you select USB upload from the device's screen menu, Photos recognizes the SD card and brings up the Import window, allowing you to preview the images and then import to Photos. Nice feature. Storage size-wise, 35mm slides averaged about 3-3.5MB (jpeg), and 135 negatives about 4-4.5MB. If you're looking for something that consistently delivers archival quality scans, you'll probably be disappointed. Some of the scans were incredibly true to the original media in color, clarity, and detail. Others were average quality, sometimes almost lo rez-like, despite the original appearing of be in good condition. I can understand the sharpness being slightly off-focus if the negative/slide has some curl in the transparency. I haven't figured out why the color is inconsistent. Based on my results, I've decided that this device is good for at least bringing all my old media into the digital realm. I've purchased a pack of slide holders (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00009R90A?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) for a binder and sorted the slides by date. If I see a digital scan that looks interesting, I can reference the actual slide and decide whether its worth taking it to one of the few remaining photo stores for a professional print.
