The parts are not made of wood, so sawing them to shorten the unit might weaken them. I have been using this product for 4 months no problems. Just happiness that I am no longer tripping on my shoes. The unit is well made, easy to assemble. Perfect fit in my entrance closet. I looked at so many shoe racks before finding this one. Most barely fits 3 pairs of shoes per shelf with often the 3rd on the side, and/or the tiers are so far apart ( 7 to 10+ inches) giving you less shoe space. This 10 tier shelves are 6” apart in height with only the last top shelf at 7”. The narrow side has 6 tiers at 12.75” apart in height with exception of bottom shelf at 8” high. It fits easily 3 to 4 pair of shoes per row on the larger shelves’ side and 1 to 2 pairs of shoes on the narrow shelves’ side. Two pair of women shoes would fit on that narrow side but only one pair of men shoes sitting flat fit with other pair on its side. In my case I used the narrow side for bags, bike helmet, hats, umbrellas…..I added another narrow 4 tier shelf on top of this one as my space allowed it. Easy to ensemble. Good construction. I recommend this product if you have the space for it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Don’t Miss the “Assembly Required” Somewhere in the Description *by on Reviewed in the United States March 7, 2026* I bought these shelves thinking I’d just pop them into my closet and be done in five minutes. What I apparently bought instead was a small construction project. After recently assembling multiple dressers, a Murphy bed and other items around my house and office, the last thing I wanted was another DIY adventure. By the time I finished, the shelves were sturdy, and surprisingly heavy but it did make the whole process feel like more of a project than expected. You definitely have to keep checking while you’re building it because the pictures are not clear at all and it is easy to flip a piece the wrong way, especially if you are building them at 11 pm after a long day at work. (Don’t do that!)To be fair, once they’re together they’re perfectly nice shelves and they do the job well. But the phrase “assembly required” really undersold the situation. There were quite a few pieces, and instead of normal screws you can use a screwdriver with, everything uses those hex-head bolts with the tiny little Allen wrench they include.
