I did my research prior to making the purchase and knew this was a water "conditioner" and not a "softener". It will leave smallish mineral deposits on surfaces, however when compared to non conditioned water, there is a noticeable difference. Non conditioned water at my home left large very noticeable mineral deposits upon evaporation. The "conditioned" water leaves small and less noticeable cloudy areas upon evaporation. You will still have to squeegee or towel dry areas that you do not want to see any spotting, like clear glass, vehicle finishes, etc. The product is environmentally friendly as advertised in that it uses no salt or electricity. I do notice an absence of chemical taste in my tap water. I did hire a plumber for the install due to the tight space behind my clothes washer and dryer where I had to install the product. Overall, I'm mostly satisfied. I gave it 4 stars because the product description says "softener", which it is not. The system doesn't add salt to the water which is the only reason it doesn't feel different. Salt-based systems like the ones we carry as well add sodium chloride to the water which gives the water a slippery/slick type of feeling. Some say it's a feeling as if they can't tell if the shampoo or conditioner is out of their hair. This type of feeling has nothing to do with the hardness of the water. For example, a reverse osmosis system also removes the minerals like a salt based system does but doesn't give that feeling to the water because there isn't any salt being added. Softeners both salt based and salt free are not filters and do not filter out any containments which is why the taste wouldn't be different. A consumer would know our FutureSoft system is working by spotting no longer sticking or etching, aerators are no longer being clogged and also draining the hot water tank because of the de-scaling process. I hired a plumber for the install due to the very limited installation area and my desire for a nice clean install. What's up?** A: I read that it takes a while to get rid of the minerals because of the accumulation over a long period of time.
