Are they screwed on? If so we can unscrew the handles and calibrate the masses by removing or adding masses.** A: I’m unclear as to what “handles” you’re referring to. I’m sure the pick up knobs on top of each weight are included in the calibration of each weight. Removing them would alter the overall weight of each one. They are there to assist in the handling of each weight with the tweezers. As handling the weights with your hands can damage the precise calibration of each weight over time. To your question, I’ve never attempted to alter the individual weights by removing these, as that would effect the accuracy of each weight. **Q: How do you calibrate a 2000g scale with a weight set that totals 1000g?** A: the Max capacity of a scale is not necessarily the weight used to calibrate it. Every scale has a different weight which is used to calibrate it. It is true that the capacity weight is equal to the calibration weight, but in general, and my experience, this is not the case for most scales, and it would make more sense to have the calibration weight to be more in the middle of the cap, 2000 g max, calibration= 1000 g, because the closer you are to the min or Max of any range is scientifically where more error occurs. **Q: How sturdy are the "handles"?
