## Questions & Answers

**Q: What color and how many repetitions should I perform for the FlexBar elbow exercise?**
A: Most people will start with the Red FlexBar and then can progress upwards as the injury improves and strength increases. If you are experiencing a higher level of pain, we would recommend starting at the lowest resistance, Yellow, and building from there. Start off by completing 3 sets of 15 repetitions twice a day, and then progress to the next color and reduce your repititions. Keep in mind that the exercise will be painful at first, but should subside within a week or two.

**Q: If i have pain in both elbows, can I still use the flexbar?**
A: A lot of people experience elbow pain in both elbows, but you can still use the Flexbar! Many people exercise the most painful side first, and then exercise the other side after some relief. Note -Â when you first use the flexbar exercise, it will be painful for the first week or so. However, always consult your healthcare provider for your own safety if these symptoms are ongoing.

**Q: Is this useful for pain in my thumbs?**
A: I have arthritis at the base of my thumbs and using the red bar hurts both thumbs, but I've not had the surgery yet.  If you have had the surgery within the last few months, I would not use it, BUT ask your OT.

**Q: Can I use the flex bar if I have tennis elbow in both arms?  Or will I be damaging one while working on the other? Thanks.**
A: Unless your elbows are a surgical emergency, the FlexBar exercise for tennis elbow would not be considered a damaging exercise. I'd advise purchasing the red and green FlexBars to find the resistance level that matches best to your body. You should do both arms whether you have tennis elbow or not - just like all exercises that can be done on both sides. As a part of your routine fitness exercises in the weight room, I would consider the FlexBar eccentric contraction exercise to be safer than the more common dumbbell wrist extension, the latter carrying some risk of extensor tendon damage and "ganglion" formation on the posterior side of the wrist.
