We tried to manufacture these products in the US but the cost was prohibitive"Great mat overall, have no complaints; it's well made' no smell once taken out of the packaging; I've been using it for about 6 months now and it's held up well to a 10 month old **Q: Do you recommend washing the cover before first use?** A: You don't need to wash it prior to use but there is no harm in doing so. Make sure to wash it in cold water and air dry with no heat. The cover will be a little big when you first get it but after washing in cold water and air drying with no heat it will shrink to fit. **Q: Can the inner core be machine washed?** A: It is recommended that the inner core be spot washed only. **Q: When not in use can it be rolled up or folded?** A: Absolutely. It comes folded in a box that is about 20" x 20" x 10". Love that it is organic/nontoxic, but wish it was a little bigger. I also think for the price the cover could be a bit less scratchy. It is pretty rough even after a few washes. Oh, speaking of washing, line drying this thing is a bit ridiculous. I'm guessing it says not to dry in a dryer because of the velcro? It's also a bit of a chore to get the cover on the mat and the mat isn't as plush and soft as I was hoping for. In the end, Im keeping it because there just aren't a lot of good options for nontoxic playmate and this is one of the better priced ones. Our baby loves to roll around and play on it. The only thing that would make it that much better is if it were thicker. If you have a rug under it you're good to go but we have a hard wood floor and our baby has tipped over while sitting and clunked her head.
