I'm writing in hopes I save others some time and to help sooth your fears about a trashed Dyson if yours is making a horrible slapping noise.Some background:I bought a Dyson Animal because I had 2 pugs and a Rottweiler, 2 breeds that can shed enough hair in a summer to stuff a pillow. The Dyson is an engineering marvel when it comes to pulling dog hair from carpet with a belt driven brush and it sucks which is a complement for a vacuum. It was my first canister model where you can see the amount of debris it is picking up. It is great for someone like me who would run a Dirt-Devil or Hoover bag model vacuum on a single bag for 3 months because I wanted to get maximum usage out of the bags. With the Dyson, I see how much I got and can easily empty it after each use. The first time I used it I filled the canister with dog hair just on our 16x20 Den. It definitely picks up more than any other vacuum I had previously owned.It will also pickup anything else that is in it's path with the help of the belt driven brush, especially things like shredded canvas dog toys. The Dyson engineers over engineer everything and I am enamored with a well engineered product. They wanted to make sure the brush had plenty of pulling power so they put teeth on the belt and the drive wheel components it touches. This is great until you suck up the strands of that shredded canvas dog toy. Before you can get it shut off the strands are wrapped around the brush and are holding it in a death grip - but the motor continues to turn and the teeth on the belt are what gives. The powerful little brush motor will smooth out that belt in one spot in a fraction of a second. After you shut it off, You can free the dog toy usually by pulling on it but when you turn it back on it sounds like there are pieces of the toy still wrapped around the brush beating on the case.This is what happened to me and after I checked twice to see if there were any remaining pieces of dog toy stuck on the brush, it was still making a horrible noise when I turned it on. I could see what looked like a depressed spot in the belt but I could not imagine that was what might cause the noise. I thought I had ruined my Dyson and was already starting to use this as an excuse to go get me a Dyson Ball. It did work but it was very noisy. I finally looked close enough to see the belt has teeth, except in the depression-looking spot where I could see no teeth on the belt. It was worn flat in that spot. I thought before I replaced the Dyson I would replace the belt to see if that helped quiet the noise a little.I didn't think I had time to wait for shipping of a belt so I headed out to the brick'n mortars that sold Dyson's as well as other vacuums. I spent 4-5 hours over a 2 day period checking all the places that sold replacement belts for other manufacturers but none had Dyson replacement belts. I had found this product before I went shopping but thought I could get one quicker in a store. After 2 days I finally came home frustrated and ordered this replacement belt - actually I ordered 3 so I could get free overnight shipping. I had the belts the next day. It was a little difficult to install but after a minor struggle, I had it replaced and this replacement belt fit perfectly.And best of all - THE SLAPPING NOISE WAS GONE!!! The Dyson is back in perfect working condition with no apparent damage.So my advice: If you are looking for a Dyson belt and reading this review, order this belt now. I certainly wished I had before I wasted my time looking for one locally. I was hesitant to purchase parts for my Dyson online and not directly from Dyson. The reason I went with this belt was because Dyson customer service was horrible. I sat on the phone for over an hour waiting for someone to answer the phone before I was given an option to have a Dyson rep call me back as soon as they got to my call (I had over 100 people ahead of me). They never called back. Shocking, right? You can't order this part off the Dyson website, so you are forced to sit on the phone waiting. I'm just not that patient..... sooooo..... Amazon was my solution. The part works great. It was a perfect fit, easy to replace, and my Dyson works as good as the day I purchased it. Don't waste your time or money with Dyson parts. This was a much cheaper and quicker alternative. Oh.... also, I called every store in the Phoenix area that sells Dysons looking for a replacement belt. Each business told me that Dyson does not allow them to sell their "replacement parts".
