This leash is of surprisingly good quality especially for the price. I had stopped into two large chain pet stores in search for a training leash and the prices for very thin six foot leads ranged from $46 - $90. I buy most everything for our dogs and other pets on Amazon so I put off purchasing one and am glad I did.The leash is very sturdy leather - which is exactly what you want. Soft leather has to much give and won't hold up to unexpected chewing and biting from your dog. The stiff leather holds up beautifully and provides a better correction "snap".The top handle and end loop are made by folding the leather down and fastening them with two steel rivets, some braiding would gave made the leash stronger but if you're not training say, a 300 pound Mastiff this lead should work out just fine.We have two Old English Bulldogs a 95 pound adult and 55 pound 7 month old puppy. I'll be using this lead for beginner obedience training (heel, sit, stay, come on command and lay down) I've been working with dogs for over 40 years and this leash is of a quality that you would pay at least three times the mere selling price of $19.00 at most any retail store.Simply used for a walking lead this leash would work out equally well. But for entry level training to advanced you really do need a standard 6 foot leather leash. The stiffness of the leather does ease up a bit over time but should stay tough enough to last for years.The tanning is very well done, it's a deep over saturated black that doesn't rub off. I wish they had passed on the brass plating for the eye clasp. Brass tends to pit and rust from wet weather - it's also less attractive especially against the silver rivets.un plated steel is always preferable, but this is my only complaint and it's a minor one.The leash was delivered well packaged in a box and the Prime membership you get free two day shipping to boot. Making this leash an even more exceptional bargain.

I bought this leash in 2013. I bought it because it was leather with brass hardware and reviewed as being sturdy and long lasting.I still have it, it is in great shape and I would say that review I read was spot on accurate. Sure it has a little wear on the edges, but the important parts like the clip and the handle are not worn out, are not loose or in any way compromised. If you want a durable leather leash, buy this one. I feel the price point is fair and if I ever lose this one or it were to be chewed or meet with some unfortunate accident I will not hesitate to buy another one.

We have a 90 lb shepherd, well trained. Any dog like ours needs a quality leash both for practicality and to uphold the regal image. I used this leash in our Obedience Trials training classes - it wasn't too stiff, but neither was it "floppy". It is the perfect balance of strength and flexibility for us. I have received compliments on this leash and my husband wants me to get him one to use with our other dog. I have been using this daily for about 3 months now. I would purchase this leash again. Extra bonus is the awesome smell of leather and the feel of a real leather leash in your hands.

I adopt and foster dogs without a lot of options due to age, temperament, etc. I also transport rescue dogs regularly. I bought one of these leashes over 9 years ago, and it’s been my daily leash that whole time. It has held up to water (both rain and swimming), heat, pulling, a little chewing, you name it. So much value for the money, and a lot of great memories of dogs come and gone.

I bought one of these a couple years ago. It finally got supple enough that it is comfortable to use now. I bought another one when we lost our other leash because it is super heavy leather, the stitching seems very solid, and I am not worried about my dog breaking it. It doesn't have any stretch or give, which I like for a dog that pulls because I am confident that the leash won't snap. The other leash that was more soft out of the box but it had some stretch in it and I was always afraid it would break. I only gave this 4 stars because of the stiffness issue. I have dogs that pull pretty hard and the handle digs into my hand. Eventually this will improve, but for a long while you will have marks on your hands if you have a dog that pulls.

This leash will last forever but you won't want it to. The price is right and it is built to last but the edges are not beveled and are fairly sharp. Plus, the leash is thicker than my older leather leashes which causes it to be very stiff. My advice, pay more and get a nice supple leather leash. With maintenance it will last forever and you won't regret the investment. I bought this leash as a replacement for my leather leash that has lasted 20 years. The clasp failed. After receiving this leash I decided to have my old leash repaired. I got it repaired for $7 and it will probably last another 20 years.

My dog trainer recommended this leash and I love it. Nice soft feel

I previously bought the 3/4 inch version of this leash in 2015. I love it and still use it. I thought I'd buy one for my mom because of the high quality. I'm disappointed that the one I just purchased is not anything near the quality of my old one. The leather feels cheap. The edges on the new one are not beveled like stated in the description which makes it very uncomfortable to hold. The old leash had nice aesthetic details and this one looks like they did the cheapest fasted job they could. I'm not impressed at all. I also have a matching collar from this brand. I was going to order a second one for my dog but I may look around for something better after seeing how the quality has diminished since 2015.

Arrived very parched and in dire need of piling to soften and supple up the leather but after it drinking up about 150ml of almond oil it’s an absolutely superb quality heavy duty leash for training a big strong dog, it’s MUCH easier to grip than a thin leather or nylon lead, it feels really chunky in your hand, and with care and regular nourishing of the leather it’ll last a lifetime.

This just arrived and I’m very impressed. It’s thick, the stitching and bolts look rock solid. The leather is brand new, and the edges are pretty hard, but I know that’ll soften over time, and even in first use I didn’t find it sharp at all. The bolt is super! Large and smooth action. Definitely recommend for a larger dog like my Berner.

Great leash! We have another dog now, so I bought a second leash. The first is a year old and has now been broken in. Pictures show my old and new leashes. The tighter curled up leash is the broken in one. A new one will be stiff and hard on your hands until broken in. Some leather conditioners may help speed this process up? As long as your dog doesn’t chew this up, it should last a really long time. The last picture is of my two dogs, 65lbs and 75lbs.

This lead is absolutely top quality.As well as being of exceptionally thick leather, the handle and heavy duty clasp are both stitched and riveted for optimum strength and security.It will last a lifetime, albeit taking a while to become comfortably supple. As with all good leathers it will certainly improve with age, but in the meanwhile can be used with total confidence.

The leash is very good quality. Our dogs have broken a few leashes over the years and we needed a very sturdy one. I am sure this one will last the lifetime of our dog and more. It's a bit longer than the average dog lead but it is comfortable in your hand right from the first walk. I highly recommend this leash for medium to large dogs.
