Surely they were impressed by my hat, and their acceptance of me in their water only gave me more confidence that anglers and trout alike, must now know at one glance that I am no longer a beginner hoping to get lucky, or a bored suburbanite looking for a new hobby. I am a full-fledged fly fisherman, and I have the hat to prove it.Seriously though, I love this hat. The wide brim does a great job of shielding my eyes from the sun. The fit is snug, yet comfortable, and the materials have a much nicer feel than similar looking hats at Bass Pro. It is a workhorse that looks and feels great.FITI measured my head at 23.5 inches. This made it unclear whether I should buy the L or XL. I went for the XL and it is the perfect fit. Snug enough to not fall off, but comfortable enough to wear all day.PERFORMANCEI use this hat exclusively for fly fishing. When I am casting into a setting sun, I find myself naturally tilting my head down to lower the brim of the hat and shield my eyes. It works perfectly.I have definitely worked up a sweat while wearing this hat and I have not noticed any negative impact from that. When it gets smushed by my kids I simply adjust it back into the shape I like and we are good to go.I have not worn the hat in the rain or dropped it into the river so I don't know how if performs when wet. But the basic premise of this hat is that it is made to handle those scenarios. I trust it will be fine.BOTTOM LINEGreat hat. It adds even more enjoyment to my fishing trips because I just love wearing it. Feels like it will age well too. High quality, functional, and all the style I can handle while pretending I don't care how I look. I have also tried on the Orvis version of this hat. After careful examination I can tell you they are identical. This hat is more expensive than the Bass Pro hats (and higher quality), and less expensive than the Orvis hat (but with the same quality). I wear it when it is raining lightly and an umbrella is too much. Keeps my hair and glasses dry and the oilskin keeps the moisture from seeping through the hat. Also a great winter hat. Keeps the top of the head warm, and keeps the snow off of you when it's snowing. Often wear it while doing yard work to keep the sun out of my eyes, or when I'm out walking my dog, or just going for a hike. I followed the sizing instructions an the medium hat barely fit the bill but the numbers said it would fit with just a bit of room to spare. It did fit but it was tighter than I like. The return was handled with no issues and the next size up was delivered promptly. The larger size was perfect right out of the box. I expect it to loosen a bit over time. That's not a problem because the inner band allows one to add a bit of padding to snug it up. Overall: fit and finish is superb, materials used are of very high quality, post sales service can't be beat!
