Review: Can't believe I'm writing a review about a fruit - I lived in Jerusalem for a little bit and fell in love with the dates you could buy at the "shuk." I had a friend that could try them all and swear which was the freshest. I bought these instead of other brands with lots of reviews because 1) they were the only review where no one complained about finding bugs in them 2) they made it clear it was a small family thing from Palestine, which I want to support. I'll be honest, when these came they were very hot from shipping, I tired one and was disappointed because it was just goop. I let them cool down and tried them again and the texture is back. Good dates IMO will have a little bit of a give in the skin but once past the skin will be like (I guess, lacking another thing to compare it to) the texture of a turkish delight with little grains of sugar you can feel on the tongue. If you think I'm over-thinking thing, I'm not, dates are serious business people. In the US I've become more used to dates that have much thicker skin and more body on the inside. They're not bad, they're just different from what you'd get in Jerusalem. And I've come to associate that with authentic. I really have no idea how fresh these are because I don't understand how my friend knew, but I guess I don't care, I just want them to taste good. And these taste good.
