Originally it was made in the USA. Schrade originals stopped being manufactured in 2004. **Q: Is it full tang?** A: No. It's a fairly strong design but not true full tang. To disassemble, undo the phillips screw at the butt end and pull. The blade is one piece with the tang, which is about half the width of the blade at its widest and just as thick as the blade (i.e., way stronger than a one-piece rat-tail design or even worse, the rat-tail welded to short stub and end of blade). The tang goes almost to the base of the buttplate, where it ends in a 2-piece arragement to provide something for the phillips screw to screw into. My original USA Schrade from 1982 or so has a 1/4" bit of steel rod with a center threaded hole for the butt-plate screw. The rod is in a 1/4" hole bored through the tang near its end. My Chinese imitation (aka "Wichita Skinner") has a captive hex nut serving the same purpose. Both also have a slot cut from the end of the tang to the threaded metal, for the butt-plate screw. The Golden Spike is one of my favorite Schrade designs, perhaps the best looking of the ones priced within my reach. BTW, in museums in Europe you will see plenty of remains of medieval sword and knives - (almost?) all with rat-tail tangs. **Q: Why does the package state made in china but amazon product features states made in u s a?** A: On the box it is stated "Made in China"Amazon listing could be wrong. For this price, well worth owning. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ With a little work it is a good knife. *by A***R on August 28, 2024* I purchased this knife because of the blade size and shape. 7Cr17 steel is a fairly good stainless steel that will reach a very sharp edge with a little effort. The blade is well formed and accurately ground, but is not sharp out of the box. The handle is a little disappointing. The Staglon feels like plastic, which it is, and overall it is too small for a man's hands, but seems to be comfortable for my wife. The finger grooves do not align with any of my fingers. Fortunately, the handle is easily removed and reworked or replaced. As it comes out of the box, this is what one would expect for a $30 knife; however, with a little work, this can be a very nice knife. The sheath is well made and is adequate. For the use I intend, it is quite good. That was my initial impression of the knife on receiving it. Since writing that review, I have sharpened the knife to my liking. I still sharpen knives the old fashioned way, with stones and muscle. I spent about 30 minutes with this knife and found it to be significantly harder than its advertised HRc of 55-57. From my experience, this blade is probably in the 58HRc range. Considering the effort and care needed to achieve the edge I like, I believe it will hold that edge quite well. If the manufacturing is consistent, I can easily recommend this knife.
