It does sit low to the ground, which we like. The pictures make it clear how low the bed is so just be sure you check the height. We have just a mattress with no box spring and the headboard is the right height for that and the bed itself supports it. If you have a boxspring you won't see much of the headboard. Arrived 2 days after order and very happy so far! Like you, I like my bed on the floor with a box spring underneath but it is almost impossible to find a frame/headboard (that looks nice) to accomplish that. I have a bad hip so elevated beds are a no go for me and I like more support than thin wood/metal slats (hence the box spring). **Q: Weight limit how much can it hold up to?** A: I’m 225lbs and my wife is around 200 so it holds us lol.
