He is a writer. An exceptional one. He taught me how to be an aware teacher. He is a permanent presence within me now. That he is an exceptional writer is contained in his ability to change how I perceive the world. And he's funny. He doesn't lecture me. He pokes and prods and steps back and lets me catch my breath. Then he plunges on and expects me to catch up.He changed how I will teach this year.I will share his book with my students.He has other books. How Can I Talk If My Lips Don't Move? In it, as in Plankton Dreams, he takes you inside his mind. (If you pay attention he is showing you how to observe your own mind.)Ball-Man“What if a ball really did have a pair of eyes? And what if it had an opinion of itself? What if it got dizzy because of so much catching and throwing?”I suspect he is Ball-Man. But as Ball-Man he is challenging me to accept that I might be Ball-Man, too.

It's a great book of satire, and underneath you can barely sense that the writer is constantly frustrated and disappointed by the way the adults around him underestimate and throttle his potential. A fantastic read for anyone.

What a tremendous book!  It is as if Alice fell through the Looking Glass and ended up in the land Special Education instead of Wonderland.  Tito Mukhopadhyay describes his experience of special education from an insider perspective with wit, humor and creativity.  His insights are keen and sharp.  This book is delightfully funny and heartbreaking at the same time.  We have much to learn from Tito's observations as a nonspeaking autistic studying the world of special education from within. You will love this quick read and want to go back to it again and again...each reading yields even more!  A must for educators, therapists, parents and people who work with or know someone with autism!
